Three Cheltenham-based students have launched a national record label, and have already signed two bands, releasing an EP for one and are on the verge of launching a UK-wide tour for another.

A Cheltenham-based record label has launched this week, in an attempt to find and promote local and national bands. Red Zebra Records,www.RedZebraRecords.co.uk,was founded by three students at The University of Gloucestershire as a part of their degree, but it is growing so successfully that the founders are planning to continue their work once they have finished their studies.

Red Zebra Records, founded by James Baylis, Kenneth Vaughn and Joseph McGarrigle, has already signed two bands to its books;Seconds from Ruin, an alternative band from Newport in Wales and local Cheltenham bandStrange Things Frighten Us.

The trio were originally assigned the project as part of their degree, but found that they were having so much success, that they decided that they wanted to continued the project outside of University.

This week has seen the first release of the debut EP fromStrange Things Frighten Usand also sees the delivery of their first batch of merchandise. The record label has a number of projects in the pipeline, including launching a UK-wide tour forSeconds From Ruin.

James Baylis, co-founder of Red Zebra Records, had the following to say about their launch: Were really excited to be launching Red Zebra Records. Weve been working on the idea for a long time, so its great to see everything in action.

He continued,After a lot of research, we managed to sign Strange Things Frighten Us, which was brilliant as we actually only needed to sign one band to the label for our degree. However, once we launched our Facebook page, we were approached by Seconds From Ruin and there was no way we were going to turn down signing a second band!

Strange Things Frighten Us EP by the same name is available to download on iTunes now.
