Local girl, Victoria Downie from Daglingworth took on the challenge of a six day trek to the abandoned city of Machu Picchu in Peru in August to raise vital funds for Worldwide Cancer Research.

Victoria chose the charity as she felt almost everyone gets touched by cancer, either themselves or a close relative is affected. Vicki said, “My own grandmother lost her battle with cancer before I was even born, I never got the chance to know her. We can make a difference by helping research into this awful disease” She goes on to say, “I wanted to challenge myself while raising funds for Worldwide Cancer Research, I think the trek does that”

Victoria is funding the trip personally so every penny she raises will go to WCR. Vicki said, “My target was to raise over £2,000, I had no idea how difficult that would be, I’ve learned a lot in how to do that, a challenge in itself.”

We very much liked Victoria’s idea of approaching local businesses to sponsor her and in return have their logo on her Challenge T-Shirts. Victoria said, “I did the usual things, pub quizzes, car boot sales, coffee mornings, asking my friends and relatives but the sponsors T-Shirt worked really well, a win-win for everyone. Thank you to Tanners Solicitors, Rock The Cotswolds, Foxy Ladies Catering and Oily Rag for their support.”

Victoria has exceeded her target but you can still donate via her Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/Vicki-Downie/
