A Spirit of the '60s Day will see classic race cars at the Dyrham Park Estate near Bath on Sunday, October 2, in an event organised by the National Trust, in partnership with the Bristol Motor Club.
Fifty years ago, the National Trust took over the running of Dyrham estate, and in the same year Bristol Motor Club organised the first Dyrham Park Speed Hill climb. To mark these anniversaries there will be a spectacular display of classic and historic competitioncars, who will also take part in display runs on the course of the original hill climb.
Many of the cars that took part in this legendary event during its five-year existence will be on display at Dyrham, and visitors will be able to wander freely amongst them and talk to their drivers. There will also be opportunities during the day to experience again the sight and sound of Motorsport in the Park, as the cars will perform escorted runs up the historic drive from the East Front of this elegant 17th-century house. It will be a nostalgic and emotional reunion between drivers, their cars, and the unique atmosphere of Dyrham Park.
Visitors can expect to see a plethora of classic cars at Dyrham, including Morgans, Triumph TRs, Jaguars and Austin-Healeys; plus fantastic examples of less well known British makes such as Buckler, Fairthorpe, Gilbern, Tornado and Turner.
This is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to step back in time and experience a flavour of the atmosphere and excitement of the '60s hill climbs, and see a superb display of classic cars at Dyrham, says Katie Morgan, Visitor Experience Manager. Its a fantastic day out for all the family and a particular must-see for any car enthusiasts.
Normal Admission Prices Apply. No booking is necessary. Cars will be on display from 10am until 4pm.
