Dozens of local folk dancers head to The Roses in support of the national phenomenon The Lock In as it tours to Tewkesbury on Thursday, February 28 at 7.30pm.

The Lock In has gained nation media attention as the show that takes folk music, traditional clog dancing and sward dancing to a whole new level as they combine it with street dance hip hop and ska.

As the show tours to The Roses in Tewkesbury, dozens of traditional dancers associated with local folk dancing groups will flock to the theatre ready to dance for an hour before the show starts to welcome its arrival to the market town.

Its really important that events like this continue to happen, explains Beckie Smith from The Roses. As new genres of dance are born, its important for us to recognise the traditional disciplines which influence the new, and events like this enable people to not only enjoy their own dance style, but to find out more about others too.

When the theatre realised that there were a number of traditional and folk groups who planned add to The Lock In experience with their own pre-performance performance, the organisation decided to nurture their enthusiasm for the show by offering the performers an exclusive ticket offer, which consequently encouraged more people to get involved.

We are really looking forward to next Thursday, explains Beckie. Not only because we are pleased to have The Lock In at the theatre, but because it has brought together so many dance groups who have rehearsed hard to create a memorable event before the start of the show.

Set to do what River Dance did for Irish Dance and what Diversity did for Street Dance, The Lock In is an award winning production that brings some of the lesser known forms of dance into the mainstream. Fast paced and innovative, the show brings together some of the UKs top clog, sward and Morris dancers with their counterparts from the worlds of street dance and hip hop to create an impressive dance extravaganza.

Tickets for The Lock In cost 16.50 with concessions available and can be booked through The Roses Box Office on 01684 295074 or online at www.rosestheatre.org
