Hospitals new unit unveiled

LINC Fund patrons Laurence and wife Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen, with daughter Hermione, and LINC Fund Director Dr Gill Rouse officially opened the revamped Edward Jenner Unit at Gloucester Royal Hospital.

The original 450,000 budget for the state of the art countywide haematology day unit facility was funded by local events organised by the small but dedicated LINC Fund staff and supporters, along with a generous 250,000 grant from The Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fund.

But along the way, several additions were made to the original plans including a complete revamp of the phlebotomy rooms, rebuilding the reception area and replacement of much of the original equipment. This resulted in a total spend of just under 700,000.

The Llewelyn-Bowens celebrated the opening by unveiling a plaque, while Dr Rouse thanked all the funds supporters for their hard work during the project. Guests then toured the facility and met the staffing team.
