Celebrating community spirit
The results of Faringdon Town Council Community Awards were announced at a special ceremony in The Pump House, Faringdon.
Councillor Margaret Barker welcomed everyone to the evening and introduced the three awards categories: Community Hero, Community Group and Community Business.

Clive Davis Community Hero Award
This award was named in memory of Clive Davis, a pillar of the community who sadly died at the end of 2008. The Award was presented by his widow Christine.
Joy Blake was named as this years winner. Joy works selflessly on behalf of the Faringdon and District Royal British Legion, raising funds and organising repatriation ceremonies amongst many other duties. Joy has also made a huge contribution in raising money for The Heart Foundation, as well as being the organist and choir master at All Saints Church.
Joy was thrilled with her award and dedicated her award to the 200 fallen soldiers who have passed by Faringdon on their journey from Lyneham to Oxford. Other nominees for the award were Christine Moorhouse for her fundraising work for Macmillan, and David and Margo Manning for their tireless charity work.

Community Group
Kay Chamberlain, chairman of Faringdon Community Bus and last years winner, presented the award which was sponsored by Faringdon Town Council.
The winning group was Faringdon and District Rotary Club. The Rotary Club are very pro active in helping the local community. They provide financial support for many charities both local and international. All members are volunteers and they give time for fundraising and to work at community events.
The award was accepted by Roger Watts and Sarah Benson on behalf of the Club. They expressed their surprise and said they felt honoured to receive the award, paying tribute to the other nominees in the category. Free use of a Town Council venue was presented as a prize. Other Groups nominated for the award were Faringdon First Responders and Faringdon Folly Trust.

Community Business Award
The award was presented by Jackie and Laura Stayt from Faringdon Whats On, last years winner. The Award was jointly sponsored by Faringdon Chamber of Commerce and Cotswold Life. The winner was Faringdon Coffee House. Everyone gets a warm welcome at the Coffee House where the staff are so friendly and help you relax whether you are meeting friends, visiting alone, buying one cup of tea or a full breakfast! They always go the extra mile when trying to accommodate food allergies or special requests. The award was accepted by owners Darren and Tracey Rutter and their whole team, who were delighted with the award.
Other Community Businesses nominated were Caldecourt Carpets and Simply Schoolwear.
