Dyrham Park is hosting a variety of festive events for visitors this December, from a festive craft market to the beautifully decorated house.

On the weekends of December 1-2 and 8-9, some of the best rooms in the mansion will be decked out for a traditional Victorian Christmas with guides in period costume. Local choirs will be singing in St Peters Church, which adjoins Dyrham house.

The tea-room will be open for seasonal refreshments, and the gift shop has some perfect gifts and stocking fillers. Also open are the beautiful West Garden and the dramatic deer park, both perfect for a wintry walk.

It is a lovely place to visit during the festive period. The deer park is breathtaking on a really clear winters day and ideal for a brisk walk after a festive lunch, says Katie Morgan, Visitor Experience Manager.

The mansion house looks stunning, and the tree in the Great Hall is really impressive - we have to build a scaffolding tower to decorate it.

Traditionally over winter, the house gets put to bed and is closed to visitors, but for these weekends a selection of the finest rooms are chosen to be decorated, which is a rare treat. Visitors coming to the event will get the chance to walk down the secret vestry passage, which links the drawing room to the local parish church, a corridor which is normally out of bounds.

There will be local produce for sale from the Doynton Village market with seasonal delights including chocolates, cakes, preserves, jewellery, greetings cards and fine knitwear. This market will be on both weekends, between 11am-3.45pm in the Servants quarters of the mansion house.
