Redwings is the UK’s largest horse sanctuary and provides a home for over 1,300 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules at centres throughout the country, including nestled in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside at Oxhill.

Redwings Oxhill is free to visit – yes, free! – and animal lovers will delight in getting up close and cuddly with the residents, including the majestic Shire horse Major and his ex-police horse friend Nesbitt. For those who love dinky ponies, Redwings Oxhill also has a troop of mischievous Shetland ponies – one such member is Wensley, who was rescued after he had been abandoned on the Lincoln commons. He and his tiny friends were subsequently named after types of cheese!

Wensley and Major, together with a gang of donkeys, Rumpel the skewbald cob and dashing Dylan the Welsh pony, are also stars of the Redwings Adoption Club. You can sponsor one of these lovely Adoption Stars for just £12.50 per year and every penny goes towards the daily care of your chosen horse and their friends. As well as being able to visit your new best friend at Redwings Oxhill, you’ll receive a certificate, regular updates and photos, an invitation to their birthday party and – for those members who join the Adoption Club before December 31 – access to their online diary, where you can watch videos and download images and wallpapers. So if you’re looking for a truly unique gift for Christmas, look no further than a membership to the Redwings Adoption club!

In addition to providing a home to their Adoption Stars, Redwings Oxhill is a place of sanctuary for over 50 horses, ponies and donkeys, including the impressive new arrival Sullivan. Sully is a Percheron x Suffolk Punch x Thoroughbred – which means he is a very big boy indeed – and has recently retired to Redwings from the South Wales Mounted Police. You can meet all the residents at Redwings Oxhill and read their stories by exploring the centre at your leisure or by attending one of the guided ‘Walk and Talk’ tours. After exploring the large site – which also welcomes dogs on leads – you can enjoy the delicious cakes and light bites served in our café.

Finally, when visiting Redwings Oxhill, be sure to peruse the many offerings in their gift shop. For the Christmas season, the shop is jam-packed with gift ideas for every member of the family – and not just for horse-lovers too! From cards, calendars and diaries, to toys, games, clothing and homewares, Redwings has Christmas covered – and best of all, all profits from purchases go directly towards caring for the Sanctuary’s horses. n
