Chelsea Flower Show veterans Howle Hill Nursery are looking forward to a busy month ahead, undertaking show gardens at both the SW1 garden Mecca at the end of the month and The Malvern Spring Show (May 9-12).
The Malvern Garden, Where East Meets West ‘depicts a woodland idyll, a place to escape the rigours of life, rest awhile and soak up the calm atmosphere.’
The design forms part of a larger garden and features an eclectic mix of plants from around the world, with an emphasis on eastern and Japanese species to celebrate the rich diversity of plants used in British gardens. Key plants include a majestic multi-tem Scots Pine, a range of stunning Japanese Maple’s, gnarled Wisteria’s and some interesting ground cover plants.
Managing Director or Howle Hill Nursery Peter Dowle has praised his teams efforts in bringing both projects together, “Credit has to go to my team – from the nursery staff who have nurtured many of these beautiful show plants during the inclement weather in our tunnels, to the build and planting teams, all of the office staff and not forgetting the design team in the first instance – all have worked tirelessly to make the Malvern Show in particular possible, in a very short space of time.”
As early as next week, while the finishing touches are being made to the Malvern garden before judging on Wednesday, a build team will head to Chelsea to begin work on the ‘After the Fire’ garden in the New Shoots section, sponsored by Cancer Research UK.
Peter, a winner of eight Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medals adds, “Show gardens are essential for a business like ours. To keep in vogue with new garden trends and products you have to be active on the show circuit. It tests every resource at our disposal but the whole team benefit from the pressure that comes with it. Putting together high quality work efficiently and in a short space of time is also invaluable when our teams return back to private projects”.
Peter Dowle and team have recently moved all operations to their Howle Hill Nursery, near Ross-on-Wye – with a new website and mail order specialist plant service nearing completion.
