Sculpture in the park at Hidcote Manor & Garden

Hidcote Manor Garden will host an art evening on Friday September 5, with the launch of local artist Karen Bower’s exhibition of paintings from her time as the Artist in Residence at Hidcote.

Karen’s exhibition runs from September 6-19 and is the culmination of her residency at Hidcote during 2014. The paintings will be displayed in the Chapel building, situated within the main courtyard at Hidcote, over the two weeks in September.

On the same evening, Hidcote is opening the garden for a special private Preview of the ‘Open Air’ Sculpture Exhibition which is being held in the garden from September 6-28.

Hidcote’s Sculpture Exhibition is now in its fourth year, and has steadily grown in popularity and scope each time. This year there are over 20 artists, displaying nearly 80 pieces of work, all artfully positioned and displayed throughout the 10.5 acres of Hidcote’s outdoor rooms.

Mike Beeston, General Manager for the National Trust explains: “Hidcote is regarded by many as a work of art in itself. But it also contains many pieces of art work, used to decorate the garden rooms which Lawrence Johnston created here. We are looking forward to seeing the work created by Karen, inspired by the colours and landscape which make up the garden. We are delighted also to once again be hosting the Sculpture Exhibition, which gives our visitors added interest and often delights with a thought-provoking perspective of the garden.”

Karen Bowers grew up in Warwickshire and Gloucestershire where she developed her attachment to the natural world. She studied Fine Art at Exeter College of Art in the late eighties. Karen’s work expresses her affection for the nature and landscape around where she lives. She often paints from life in watercolour and uses those works to develop larger scale oil paintings in her studio.
