Your home is an extension of yourself, your taste and style, and choosing furniture and especially a bespoke furniture maker isn't always the easiest decision to make. We speak to Laura Cole at Cotswood Fine Furniture about the advantages of choosing truly bespoke furniture for your home

Choosing the perfect piece of furniture or redecorating your home, however much of love of interior design stretches to, can become an arduous task. Redecorating a neglected space or transforming a room often involves traipsing around huge furniture warehouses failing to find exactly what you had in mind and this can only add to the hassle and stress of updating or renovating your home.

Mass-made furniture rarely stands the test of time, and it’s likely you’ll be looking for something to replace a lot sooner then what you would have hoped. You may also end up with the same furniture as your neighbour down the road.

Opting for custom-made, fully bespoke furniture alleviates the stresses of furniture shopping and why settle for second best or something that’s ‘sort of something you had in mind. With a truly bespoke furniture maker, materials, size and style – it’s all up to you.

Bespoke is a word bounded around these days to encompass most types of furniture making. Bespoke should mean ‘truly made to measure furniture to the design, size and specification the customer desires’.

“I always feel quite privileged sitting with someone trying to figure out what they would like.” Laura Cole, at the Cotswold bespoke furniture maker Cotswood Fine Furniture; works with individuals and businesses to draw out and develop the ideas they have for their furniture and ensures the process remains collaborative from design to installation. “Cotswood see everything through from beginning to end – every detail is considered.”

The intimate, professional relationship between you and your designer allows for you to feel at ease whilst the furniture is being designed, built and installed. Working closely together, will ensure you have the furniture that you dream of.

Laura Cole will visit her customers at their home if they so wish to get a feel for what they like, their personal taste and style before designing. Following a talk about requirements, measuring up and creating a wishlist, Laura will return with a CAD (computer-aided design), price it and go from there. If the design needs revising, then this will be done until the customer is happy with it. ‘We want every customer to feel they are getting exactly what they ask for.’

An individually designed, beautifully crafted piece of fitted furniture not only looks fantastic but also fully utilises space in your home. You’ll have furniture which has been made to include your own design and specification, and expertly tailored to your specific size requirements and special design features and it will be designed and built to last for many years.

Quality materials are used when creating our bespoke furniture – and skilled craftsmen will be building your chosen design. For example, Cotswood Fine Furniture make all components in their workshop using the finest materials and will not use chipboard in their furniture as they feel it’s an inferior material.

Those living in older homes with all their charming nooks and crannies can really benefit from the flexibility that comes with designing furniture, especially kitchens and bedrooms. Laura Cole adds, “We get a lot of work in old Cotswold homes where you need furniture to work and fit into difficult spaces, making use of angled walls and unusual shaped rooms.

With more and more people working from home and requiring an office or study, Laura has seen a rise in people attempting to transform spaces into a perfect place to work: replacing a mismatch of office furniture collected over the years into a fully functional office with beautiful bespoke furniture.

With a passion for delivering the vision their customers had in mind and making sure they’re happy, Laura Cole says, “Most of what we do is repeat business or on personal recommendation because we’ve strived to do a good job in the first place.”
