Interior designer Vicky Walker set herself a challenge - to create a Christmas table setting for under 50

You can create a Christmas table setting fit for a king - without possessing his wealth. Interior designer Vicky Walker proves that all it takes is a little imagination, a tin of spray paint and charity shops.

Cotswold Care Hospice, which runs nine charity shops in Gloucestershire, challenge Vicky to create a Christmas table setting for under 50 with goodies all from its shops. She did better than that - she came up with two for 46.50.

The secret of her success? The first thing is to find something that inspires you, that you can build upon. For Vicky it was the gold-rimmed wine glasses.

"When I found the wine glasses I knew that my theme would be gold and white. It's elegant, timeless and always a winner," said Vicky, who runs Boxhouse Interiors, near Stow-on-the-Wold.

She created two table settings: a gold and white theme for the grown-ups and a colourful confection for children, all with goods from Cotswold Care shops.

The charity, which helps more than 400 people a year with life-limiting illnesses provides all of its services free of charge. Its charity shops provide a significant amount of the 1.4 million needed every year to run the hospice based in Minchinhampton, near Stroud.
