Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards 2018: Newcomer of the Year

Opening a new business is never easy, so when one succeeds it’s always cause for celebration. The Cotswolds is full of amazing new businesses but we feel that this one has gone above and beyond...

The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.

We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ Award, sponsored by Arthur David.

This year’s finalists

Fillet & Bone, Chipping Campden

Set in a centuries’ old butchers’, Fillet & Bone dazzled judges with the exceptional selection of food and drink sourced sustainably from the Cotswolds. Judges were excited to hear that they plan to develop the rear of the shop into a café and bakery style operation which only sets to improve their reputation and draw in a keen interest from the passing tourist trade.

Tierra & Mar, Cirencester

Judges were impressed by the exceptional quality of food and efficient service at Tierra & Mar. Serving tapas or larger sharing dishes, all ingredients are fresh - whether it’s seafood from New Wave or meat and vegetables reared on the family smallholding near Cirencester. They enjoyed the little touches such as canapés and petit fours and commented that the knowledge of the staff really added to the visit.

And the winner is...

Koj, Cheltenham

Judges were wowed by Koj’s fried chicken and the success that has already been established - including the amazing restaurant reviews in the national press and the Michelin guide among others. They plan to become the ‘go to’ restaurant for Cheltenham and the Cotswolds, offering an eclectic range of Japanese dishes that are tasty and satisfying with their unique selling point of no sushi!
