Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards 2018: Drinks Product of the Year

This was your opportunity to nominate your favourite drinks product aside from ale beer or cider that is made by a Cotswold farmer, producer, retailer or manufacturer. We announce this year’s worthy winner

The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.

We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Drinks Product of the Year’ Award, sponsored by Folk2Folk.

This year’s finalists

Garden Tiger Dry Gin, Capreolus Distillery, Cirencester

Garden Tiger Dry Gin from Capreolus Distillery impressed judges with its fantastic packaging, it was thought that it accentuated the quality of the drink and its exclusivity, as it is only distilled in very small batches. They noted upon how smooth the gin was and that the fresh summery aroma of oranges can be smelt though the botanicals of this complex gin. Another great find right on our doorstep from the heart of the Cotswolds.

Cotswold Single Malt Whisky, Cotswold Distillery, Stourton

Cotswold Distillery’s Single Malt Whisky wowed judges with its incredibly smooth and high quality taste. Notes of honey and light fruit can be smelt and flavourings of rich dark sugar, oils and spice can be tasted, complemented by a stunning clear and golden colouring. It was noted how informative the packaging is, being the first whisky ever distilled in the Cotswolds, it is clear of the love and care that goes into distilling such a great product.

And the winner is...

Bacchus 2016, Poulton Hill Estate, Poulton

Judges commented on the smooth, silky and light fruit flavours of lychee, peach and elderflower of the Bacchus 2016. They noted that the label was clear and well designed and thought that the description fitted the taste of the wine impeccably. Judges were impressed with the hand-harvested vines creating a crisp, refreshing and distinctive flavour. They would wholeheartedly recommend it, if you love a quality white wine, you’ll love the Bacchus!
