Archant

The nominees for this category were selected for their genuine passion for our Cotswold food scene and a dedication to what it means for the local community

The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.

We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Best Independent Retailer’ Award, sponsored by Worcester Family Law Practice.

This year’s finalists

Severn & Wye Smokery, Westbury-on-Severn

Judges praised the variety and descriptions of the local produce inside Severn & Wye Smokery, noting it as a hidden gem which was well worth the effort to visit. They thought that the fish counter and café & restaurant inside were superb, as was the other produce available to purchase. The staff were polite, efficient and knowledgeable and the judges look forward to and they look forward to revisiting to see developments made.

The Orchard Deli, Quedgeley

Judges found The Orchard Deli with ease and described the speciality sausages at the deli to be excellent and were very pleased with the selection and variety of the purchases made. The regular customers appeared delighted with the BBQ offerings and plenty of orders were being made from the take out menu too. Sandwiches were made fresh and upon request with the produce available in store.

And the winner is...

Taste of the Country, Shipston-on-Stour

Taste of the Country had a wow factor for the judges upon arrival with fantastic window displays and beautiful signage outside. There was an excellent selection of local produce such as drinks, savoury food, cheese and cakes with an abundance of explanations to match. The staff were noted to be very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, with a clear love for the shop and its produce. It appeared to be a thriving little business in the community.
