Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards 2017: Chef of the Year

They put in years of dedication and training to create perfection on a plate. These are the chefs behind the plethora of fantastic restaurants that we enjoy in the Cotswolds. There is so much talent here, but we have picked our finalists, and one that was a cut above the rest
The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Chef of the Year Award’, sponsored by Arthur David.
This year’s finalists
Gareth Fulford, Purslane, Cheltenham
Gareth Fulford has a clear dedicated passion and a proven track record specialising in fish and sea food. The dishes experienced offered fantastic complementing flavours and were described as being visually stunning.
Jon Howe, Lumière, Cheltenham
Jon Howe was said to put his heart and soul on the plate. Judges commended a wide variety of choice, technique and imagination with dishes. The presentation was detailed in delivery - all making for a fantastic dining experience.
And the winner is...
David Everitt-Matthias, Le Champignon Sauvage, Cheltenham
David Everitt-Matthias was described as a master at work in the kitchen using quality ingredients and years of passion and experience to create life long memories of food experiences. Judges commented that choosing dishes was so hard as they all sound so appetising.
