The Cotswolds is home to numerous local butchers who contribute an enormous amount to the local food scene. Their knowledge of the trade and the pride they take in their work make them a pride to the community
The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Butcher of the Year Award’, sponsored by Donna Beaver, The Flower Studio.
This year’s finalists
Andy Creese Butchers, Newent
Judges were impressed with the strong relationships that Andy Creese Butchers has built with local farmers – forming the heart of the business. Judges also noted that they deliver the finest quality meat from reputable sources where animal welfare is uttermost.
Country Quality Meat, Nailsworth
Judges commended Country Quality Meat for around 95% of their meat being sourced locally and for the quality and value that they offer to their customers. Judges also commented on the knowledge and advice provided by staff.
And the winner is...
Jesse Smith Butcher, Cirencester & Tetbury
Jesse Smith Butcher was described by judges as being ‘a one-stop shop in which to buy all you need for a fine locally-sourced meal’. Judges also noted a great feeling of camaraderie between employees and customers – many known by their first names.
