Opening a new business is never easy, so when one succeeds it’s always cause for celebration. The Cotswolds is full of amazing new businesses but we feel that this one has gone above and beyond…
The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Newcomer of the Year Award’.
This year’s finalists
ChenMoore Chopsticks, Prestbury
Chenmoore Chopsticks is run by Pamela Chen Moore where she provides courses teaching clients to make wholesome and delicious oriental food. Judges praised the success of ChenMoore Chopsticks for the innovative ideas in creating fantastic oriental dishes and her encouragement in promoting healthy eating. They were impressed by her active approach and her ambition to grow her business through networking.
Stargazy Fish Bar, Tetbury
Stargazy Fish Bar is a fish bar and takeaway, situated next door to The Priory Inn in Tetbury. The fish they serve is all from sustainable sources and the batter they use is delicious. It’s made from a special recipe using a blend of Shipton Mill flours and Cotswold Brewing Company Premium Lager.
Stargazy Fish Bar impressed the judges with the idea behind the venture – creating a takeaway outlet focusing on quality. They use local products to create their batter and responsibly sourced fish. As well as selling battered fish they also sell grilled fish and salads and everything is cooked to order.
And the winner is…
The Orchard Deli, Quedgeley
Fresh food is the order of the day at this delicatessen in Quedgeley. The deli has a full butchery with a selection of quality meats, pies, sausages and cheeses.
Manager Darren Payne has been working in the industry for 35 years. His aim is to offer a traditional element to The Orchard Deli’s range of foods on offer and show customers the difference between locally supplied food and that which is available in supermarkets.
Judges commended the vast range of products available to purchase at The Orchard Deli with all meat being locally sourced and their products being freshly made onsite. The business is family run and supports the apprenticeships scheme.
The Best Newcomer of the Year Award is sponsored by New Wave Seafood
