From cosy pubs to rustic inns, the Cotswolds are home to some of the finest dining pubs in the region. Here’s our winner of the Best Pub Restaurant at the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards 2016.
The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Best Pub Restaurant’ Award.
This year’s finalists…
The Bell at Selsley
This Grade II listed Cotswold Inn can be found in the picturesque village of Selsley in Stroud. Surrounded by miles of rolling countryside, The Bell is a country inn, perfect for unwinding after a long walk or a day out in the field.
Whether you’re just passing through the village or you’re a loyal Selsley local, you’ll be welcomed in with open arms where seasonal game and locally-sourced produce feature heavily on the menu. This dining pub plays an avid part in supporting the local environment and community and that’s why it was a great contender for ‘Best Pub Restaurant’ at the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards.
The Bell at Selsley was commended by judges for quality ingredients used across a very tempting menu and celebrating a local provenance theme. The team behind the bar offered a warm welcome and had very impressive product knowledge.
The Horse and Groom, Bourton-on-the-Hill
This honey-coloured countryside pub in the bucolic village of Bourton-on-the-Hill was winner of ‘Best Pub Restaurant’ at the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards 2015, and was narrowly pipped to the post this year.
Inside, you’ll find a traditional country décor with a welcoming bar surrounded by comfy stools and an open stone fire place. In the summer months, enjoy a pint of ale or glass of wine in the perfectly manicured garden, or try a new dish from the seasonally inspired menu.
Judges were impressed by the local drinks, both alcoholic and soft, available at the Horse and Groom. Judges also commented on the ever changing menu based on what’s in season in the pubs own garden and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the establishment.
And the winner of ‘Best Pub Restaurant 2016’ is…
The Swan at Southrop
The Swan is part of the Thyme and Southrop Manor Estate, where ‘homemade, homegrown and produce driven’ is their ethos. This is reflected in their delicious ever-changing menu that makes the most of the seasonal local produce on offer throughout the year in the kitchen garden.
But it’s not just the food on offer that gets people through the doors. The first-class service oozes bonhomie and the rustic interior of the dining pub is warm, welcoming and cosy.
The Swan at Southrop was praised by judges for a menu utilising the best of the local seasonal produce available. The bar was also said to boast a great selection of local ales, extensive wine list and impressive selection of locally distilled spirits and the friendly staff gave some useful tips and recommendations.
The ‘Best Pub Restaurant of the Year’ Award is sponsored by Tayaboli Tomlin.
