The nominees for this category were selected for their genuine passion for our Cotswold food scene and a dedication to what it means for the local community.
This was your chance to shout about your favourite food retailer. We were on the look out for establishments that had a genuine passion for the local food community and supplied products produced and grown here in the region.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Best Independent Retailer Award’.
This year’s finalists
Blockley Village Shop & Café
Whether you fancy a tasty breakfast, a light lunch or a spot of afternoon tea, the shop is the heart of the village and will have something delicious to suit your needs.
The judges described Blockley Village Shop & Café as a great facility in the heart of the Blockley community with a very friendly and warm atmosphere and attentive staff. The shop was well stocked with products and had notice boards for local events. It was clear to see that this is a great asset for the local residents.
John Barleycorn’s, Broadway
John Barleycorn’s sells a range of products and from family run businesses in the Cotswolds and South West.
John Barleycorn’s grabbed the judge’s attention with the well displayed items and the great use of space within the premises. Judges noted the extensive range of local items including ales, jams and commented that it is a great place to pick a fabulous gift for a food lover.
This year’s winner of the ‘Best Independent Retailer Award’ is…
Jolly Nice, Frampton Mansell
The shop is based on picturesque Westonbirt Farm, where the rare shorthorn cattle are bred by owners Simon and Rebecca on historic parkland. They serve anything from bacon rolls to homemade soups, as well as their own ice cream and delicious trademark burger.
Judges praised Jolly Nice for their commitment to quality local products and their achievement of creating a great place to visit. There was a great selection of fruit, vegetables and meat available to purchase and staff created a great environment for customers.
