Wycliffe is now accredited to offer US university entrance tests

Wycliffe has become the first school in the South West to be accredited to offer US university entrance tests.

The PSAT, SAT and ACT testing systems are rarely permitted outside the USA and very few places in the UK are authorised to run them. With increasing numbers wishing to apply for US universities, the school decided it was time to out Wycliffe among the elite.

When US teacher Betsy Wentzel joined the staff, the opportunity to exploit her knowledge and experience of the US education system was too great to miss and she was given the task of getting things under way.

Now Wycliffe will be the host centre for the tests for all of Wales and the south-west of England.

Betsy also runs preparation classes for US university applicants along with Head of Sixth Form Jon Hardaker. The school has already attracted interest with students enrolling this year with the explicit aim of following the new preparation course.

Deputy Head (Academic) Sean Dunne said "Betsy has done tremendous work and we already have several sixth formers under way with the test preparations and application support classes.

"The increased tuition fees required in UK universities are making students broaden their horizons and we expect this to become an increasingly popular choice along with consideration of European universities."

Head of Sixth Form, Jon Hardaker added "Top US universities can offer outstanding learning and life opportunities. While we have had success in the past for Ivy League applicants, finding good guidance was difficult. Now we have all the expertise we need in house to support our students and find them the very best places of study for their needs."
