We are sure the 38th Summer School will be memorable for a lot of reasons but not least because we have the unique opportunity of hosting it during the London 2012 Olympic Games! We will be providing visitors with the opportunity to get close to the action enjoying the widespread TV coverage in our Olympic Lounge in the company of fellow sporting enthusiasts. In contrast, for those who would prefer to escape it altogether, the Marquee and main Court area will be the perfect place to get away and enjoy the wide variety of entertainment on offer each day.
The popularity of the Summer School is undoubtedly underpinned by the phrase something for everyone. Catering for all ages from 3 years through to our most senior students who are 90 years young, it is this blend spanning the generations and accommodating all combinations of family groups and individuals that creates our unique holiday atmosphere.
A powerful feature of the Summer School has always been the ever-changing course programme that is refreshed and developed annually and this year is no exception. We have several exciting new courses such as Ukulele for Beginners, Acting for Adults, Introduction to Shiatsu, An Introduction to Gundog Training and On Target. For children, the new courses include Project Catwalk, Music and Music Video Production, Filmmaking Challenge, Golf for Beginners, Design and Make your own Working Clocks and Fabulous Photo-forays.
We are pleased to present another fabulous Gala concert series. Some highlights include; An Evening with Ed Stafford, the explorer who became the first man to walk the length of the Amazon River, the ex-Poet Laureate Andrew Motion introducing his new book Silver Return to Treasure Island, An Evening with Claire Jones who was the official harpist to the Prince of Wales and played at the wedding reception of Prince William and Catherine Middleton and in our final week we have a grand celebration of the Queens Diamond Jubilee with two concerts in one, starting in the stunning College Chapel and finishing in the Memorial Hall. Our final Gala is I Feel Good!, a concert including plenty of old favourites played by renowned Rock n Roll band Fat Chance and will round off another Summer School nicely with what promises to be a fun evening.
In addition to the Gala concerts, the Summer School presents daily lectures and recitals that have become a popular feature of the entertainment scene.
The Summer School takes place between 22nd July and 11th August 2012. To book please go to www.mcsummerschool.org.uk or telephone us on 01672 892388 for a brochure.
