Kitebrook School

Kitebrook has always combined progressive ideals with traditional values. So, for over 50 years, Kitebrook children have emerged as inspiring, happy and articulate young people, fit and ready for the very best senior schools.

Kitebrook has always combined progressive ideals with traditional values. So, for over 50 years, Kitebrook children have emerged as inspiring, happy and articulate young people, fit and ready for the very best senior schools.

Kitebrook is an educational greenhouse, not a hothouse.

As children grow, it is important that they feel as secure at school as they do at home. So we offer structure but we also offer space. The Kitebrook grounds are extensive and the children like our chickens and sheep range freely. We follow the rhythm of the seasons. We climb trees. We engage with the modern world but we are not distracted by its apparent sophistication. Our core values are deep rooted and well established. We want children to stay as children . . . until they are truly ready for the next stage.

We help children to learn how to express their ideas and thoughts in a place that is safe, where they know their views will be respected.

At Kitebrook we have very high expectations of the children but our discipline is based on creating a loving environment, on communication and on trust . . . rather than on sanctions. Good behaviour is praised but children are always challenged: we want them to learn to care for others; we want them to be the best person they can be. Perhaps it is because of this, and the intimacy created by a small rural school, that boys and girls of all ages socialise, play and grow happily alongside each other. We know that a child is just as likely to learn an important lesson during play time as, say, during a practical session in the Lab.

Our belief is that smaller classes give children space to express their ideas and thoughts in a secure environment. It is important that children know their views will be respected. From this basis comes trust and from trust comes self-confidence. At Kitebrook our children enjoy sharing their interests and passions with an audience. All our pupils take English Speaking Board exams, achieving consistently outstanding results . . . and, more importantly, the children gain a skill that will never leave them.

We have a strong feeling at Kitebrook for the importance of unlocking hidden potential. We are proud that in our lessons every day (and with extra specialised support should it be appropriate) children who might be undervalued in other schools achieve at levels beyond their expectations. It is always inspiring to see a child enjoy areas of learning that perhaps he or she had previously struggled with . . . and then to see the same child discover new passions.

At Kitebrook our expectations are as high as the regard we have for the individual.

We have very high academic standards but they are achieved without, we think, unnecessary pressure. Lessons are dynamic and engaging, interactive and energetic. We believe in an organised approach to homework and a close working relationship with parents. For some teachers our excellent IT facilities offer new ways of delivering exciting concept to pupils certainly all Kitebrook leavers are skilled computer users for others paper and pencil work best. So, Kitebrook is about a variety of complementary approaches rather than any particular educational dogma. From the Form Teachers who are there every day to attend to the needs and concern of their class, to the specialist subject teachers who bring focused expertise in Literature, Languages, Science or Sport, we build strong, caring relationships with our pupils and, as a family that learns together, we are all very proud of each others achievements.
