Steve Barnett, a Director of Glevum Security, has stepped up as the new chairman of the Bristol Road Business Group, representing the interests of the many companies trading along this two mile length of the Bristol Road and A38.

Steve has taken over from John Verdon of Avon Metals who stood down due to work commitments.

I was asked to take the chair of the Bristol Road Business Group, taking over from John, said Steve.

John and his committee have dedicated a lot of his time over the past few years to this group, and it goes without saying that he and his committee have done a sterling job, and each and every one of them still remains true ambassadors to the business community along the Bristol Road.

Steve chaired his first meeting of the group at the Global Language Immersion Centre in Commercial Road last week, with 30 businesses attending.

He said: All the business along the Bristol Road plays a very important part in the growth of Gloucester and I feel that a business group such as this could only add value to this city and will allow us to have a say in what is right or wrong to improve the growth of this great city and county of ours.

My aim is to act as their chairman and to ensure, to the best of my ability, that any issues are disseminated and addressed by the right service providers, such as Gloucester City Council, Gloucestershire County Council and other organisations such as GFirst, FSB and Gloucester and Gloucestershire chambers.

Our aim is to promote and protect the businesses in Bristol Road and the A38 Corridor.

We will always welcome and encourage businesses to come forward and support us as possible. It is relevant to them and they can have a say.

This corridor is one of the main gateways to the city so it is imperative it communicates a positive image and message.

We are a non profit making group with the sole aim of having one voice to campaign for the individual needs of the businesses in the area.
