Circle2Success Cyber Guru Professor Richard Benham has been nominated for UK Digital Leader of the Year. He is up against some stiff competition so give him support and vote to help put the Cotswolds and South West in lights for this sector.
The Digital Leaders programme known as DL100 each year recognises the importance of leadership in driving forward digital transformation in the UK and is split into ten categories.
The most prestigious award is for an individual whose actions in the past year have made them standout as a digital leader in transformation of the digital sector.
Professor Benham has led the way on changing behaviours, educating the business world around the threats of cyber and providing real value to organisations, schools and individuals on how better to protect themselves and their employees. Listed below are the various initiatives that are truly blazing a trail and setting the roadmap for making us all in the UK more secure digitally.
The Cyber Trust, a registered charity, has been set up by Professor Benham to work with vulnerable groups to educate them on safer cyber. Lord Lieutenant Dame Janet Trotter is Chair, along with Circle2Success, Bank of England, Tayabali Tomlin, IoD, Alex Chalk MP, Gloucestershire Constabulary, Controls Risk and IRM on the committee.
This is just one of Professor Benham’s major national achievements and an Initiative to ensure all vulnerable and those at higher risk are better protected by receiving free training and guidance. Supported by Gloucestershire Police the Trust saw the birth of the Cyber Citizen which has been an immense hit in making cyber messages more engaging and by default achieving real results in changing behaviours.
So successful in fact that Gloucestershire Police are funding a Cyber Citizen for every school in Gloucestershire that wants one and Cyber Security Challenge UK will be endorsing it with their logo. This will be run under a new brand Cyber4Schools® to expand this nationally with other police forces.
TheCyberClub was recently launched in Cheltenham to support the business community and has a wide range of events, news, products and services that are truly world class. Again supported by the police this provides a trusted partner for businesses and members already include Barclays Bank Group, Mitie Plc and The FA Premier League as well as many C2S members.
As if this wasn’t enough in the last twelve months Professor Benham has visited and helped the Mexican Government, the United Nations and SWIFT. He also wrote the Institute of Directors Cyber Policy paper which was supported at it launch by the Digital Minister Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP to the world’s media.
Professor Benham works tirelessly to achieve his ambition to ensure all citizens are cyber safer, from teenagers and business owners to the elderly and vulnerable.
Fearlessly Independent he challenged the UK banks and regulators to make our banking system stronger and notably holds the BBC Business website record for 1.1 million hits in a day for an interview he gave the BBC on this.
