A raft of new 19-plate trucks has hit the road as the first phase of a £5 million investment in the CM Downton fleet gets underway
Sixty new DAF XF 480 FTG 6x2 tractor units supplied by Imperial Commercials in Gloucester will come online as CM Downton, now part of UK logistics giant EV Cargo, expands its fleet to cope with new business wins and increased volumes.
Sixty units have hit the road since March as part of a two-month phased introduction at the Gloucester-based logistics firm.
All meet the latest Euro 6 regulations around emissions and will ensure that 93 per cent of the Downton fleet is compliant with upcoming stringent rules around low emission zones, reducing the company's impact on the environment and helping customers meet their sustainability targets.
The tractors are loaded with state-of-the-art safety technology such as lane assist and driver aids to help monitor and reduce fuel consumption and will be used right across the firm's national operations network.
Downton is also refreshing its trailer fleet by adding 100 new curtain-side Tiger Trailers emblazoned with the firm's traditional colours and subtle new EV Cargo dual-branding.
Zac Brown, CM Downton Operations Director, said the group was striving to stay ahead of the pack and deliver its logistics programme in the most environmentally-friendly way possible.
“As part of the EV Cargo group, we have the resource to invest across all areas of the business and the new trucks and trailers will ensure we have the latest technology to deliver sector-leading logistics in the most sustainable way possible,” he said. “Responding to recent contract wins and a flourishing business portfolio, this fleet expansion will ensure the high quality of service the Downton name is renowned for.”
