Social media, although a relatively recent phenomenon, is becoming an increasingly important part of any businesss marketing and client base development platform

The perception of social media marketing has shifted quickly, no longer viewed as a trendy or passing fad, having a flexible and well-managed presence in each of the big three (LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook) has become a must for any business seeking to secure a place in both the traditional and digital marketplace.

Business Telecoms Company Lister Communications have been using social media as a successful part of the companys marketing strategy for some time.

Over the last 12 months the biggest change has been the growth of social media marketing and internet. Internet marketing is low cost and very fast to distribute. Social Media gives the option for wide-spread awareness and is often the best source of referrals.

Following on from the positive impact social media has had on its own business and with a desire to drive business growth in the region, Lister Communications teamed up with

Jo Dodds (http://jododdssocialmedia.com) and Space 2UK (http://www.snh.uk.com) to offer two interactive social media sessions to local businesses, one at Forest Green Rovers Football Club and the other at Gloucester Rugby Club. 85 businesses were in attendance over the two days including; The Cotswold Life, Stroud District and Bristol City Councils, Smith's (Gloucester) Ltd and Clarkson Evans.

Jo Dodds entertained the delegates with a simple interactive teaching method for even the most social media phobic. Jo gave all the delegates an easy guide to introducing social media into their businesses and a how to guide on utilising the various social media offering to maximise the effect they can have on their business.

Jo has been helping business owners and entrepreneurs to market themselves online and get free traffic to their website using Social Media. Her level of expertise in this field made Jo the perfect person to answer all the questions business may have had.

The session with Jo Dodds yesterday was of immense value to me on all sorts of levels and a multitude of ways. I was worried that my total ignorance of how to use Social Media beyond simply turning up on them might leave me on the sidelines as more advanced users traded incomprehensible jargon and that I would come away even more confused. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am a convert. Lister Communications a generous company improving people just because they want to!

Swan Lake. We know the music, we know the iconic imagery of the beautiful ballerina dressed as a swan, but I’m guessing that without reading the libretto in the program, most people don’t know the story. Which is why the audience relies on the dancers to tell us.
