Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership has written to the Highways Agency to lobby them about key transport issues in the county.

The LEP and Worcestershire LEP have been working together to minimise cross-border transport problems and have sent letters urging the Highways Agency to look at three of the major pinch points of traffic that have an adverse impact of the economies of both counties.

These are A417 Air Balloon roundabout, which is one of the most congested roads in the South West, the A46 trunk road, and the M5 junction 10 bridge replacement and movement of the junction.

Diane Savory, chair of Gloucestershire LEP, said: The Air Balloon roundabout or missing link is a notorious traffic route with frequent accidents. Improvements to the route are essential, and although they wouldnt remove all delays, improvements would reduce the number of incidents and reduce the impact and delay for road users.

The A46 and Junction 10 also suffer from major transport problems and any further developments in the area, which are anticipated, will only exacerbate these issues and stop people from doing business in our county. We want the Highways Agency to find a resolution to these pinch points to ensure our county has an infrastructure to support the growth of Gloucestershire.

A copy of the letter can be found on Gloucestershire LEPs website: www.gloslep.co.uk
