Prima Dental is a world leader in the production of precision dental equipment. It exports to over 100 countries world-wide, deriving 82 per cent of its total business from overseas markets and 52 per cent of its sales in the USA. It is also a market leader in the UK.

At its Gloucester facility, Prima Dental design and engineer a range of highly specialised products, including the world’s finest dental drills, which allow dentists to work more quickly and accurately, ensuring increased patient comfort.

Prima Dental has worked closely with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) to grow its business oversees and the results have been spectacular, delivering double digit sales growth year on year in some markets. Prima Dental has used UKTI’s services to help gain a full understanding of its target markets and identify trends and sales opportunities. UKTI programmes and services they have made use of include the Overseas Market Introduction Service, Passport to Export, Gateway to Global Growth and the Tradeshow Access Programme.

Commenting on the company’s export success, UKTI International Trade Adviser Nigel Green said:

“Prima Dental combines specialist engineering expertise with progressive business management. Their enviable level of sales and profitability is a result of their ability to listen to the needs of their customers, work closely with their partners and use UKTI’s support to thoroughly research markets. In every aspect of their business they are prepared to be better than their competitors.”

Prima Dental’s Sales Manager, Dan Hodgson said:

“Prima Dental is committed to designing and engineering premium, precision-made dental products that deliver performance, profit and growth, for us and for our customers. Our consistent emphasis on exporting is the key driver of our success and future growth and UKTI’s support and expertise forms a vital part of this. UKTI has been invaluable to our trading success, which is down to a pioneering global marketing programme, as well as significant investment in manufacturing technology and product innovation.

“The first half of 2013 has been exceptional for us and I am delighted to say that we are expecting another record trading year, with sales growth of 15 per cent forecasted. Since the beginning of 2011 our sales in the USA have grown by 47 per cent and we continue to expand into new markets. Working in partnership with UKTI, 2014 will be another really exciting year for us as we continue to expand into new global markets and invest in new products and technology.”

To capitalise on growing demand for its dental products across the globe, Prima Dental continues to develop new marketing support services and recently launched a range of innovative web-based tools. Harnessing digital technology and social media, they have developed an iPad App for dental clients – the first of its kind in its sector. The company also recently launched a new multi-tier website and a suite of pioneering e-learning tools for its clients and trade partners around the world.
