David Jackson: From football to the cabling guy

This year marks the fifth anniversary of The Cabling Company, headquartered at Witney Business & Innovation Centre (BIC) and founded by a former Oxford United commercial manager who took a leap of faith to leave his beloved football club to start-up his own cabling business that is rapidly expanding following major UK success.

David Jackson set-up shop following personal investment in a top flight cabling qualification to become a Certified Network Infrastructure Design Professional (CNIDP®) which has set him aside from the competition to help win large contracts with high street retail outlets including Argos, House of Fraser, LiDL, New Look and Monsoon.

Five years later and The Cabling Company is a thriving team of eight full time employees with an extended workforce of over 120 engineers across the UK, managed and operated from Witney BIC where the company has expanded to larger offices.

The future looks promising with ambitions to double The Cabling Company’s headcount in the next five years in addition to increasing turnover at its current annual growth rate of 20 per cent, which will lead to further expansion at Witney BIC.

David Jackson, founder and sales director for The Cabling Company, said: “I’m proud to reach the five year milestone as I’m well aware that most start-ups in the UK fail before reaching their fifth birthday. Moving into our new offices at Witney BIC is a perfect celebration as we look towards the next five years. I’m still a season ticket holder at Oxford United and hope to see their success on and off the pitch mirror our own!”

He continued: “The Witney BIC team have all been very helpful from accommodating meeting room requests at short notice and accepting deliveries through to offering very flexible terms. Expanding at the centre has been a very positive experience and has enabled us to grow without the worry or expense of moving offices.”

Managed by Oxford Innovation, Witney BIC is owned by Blenheim Palace and provides a selection of office space solutions for 1 to 30 people.
