400 guests packed Cheltenham Town Hall to celebrate the successful first Cotswold Life Engineering, Manufacturing, Innovation Awards

The inaugural Cotswold Life Engineering, Manufacturing, Innovation (EMI) Awards celebrated and supported a thriving industry across Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire.

Over 400 people packed into Cheltenham Town Hall on September 17 to hear one of the UK’s most prominent manufacturing authorities, Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, Chairman of WMG, speak on successfully building up Britain’s manufacturing base and how the Cotswold Life EMI Awards had revealed the huge amount of successful manufacturing happening across the region. He said: “I can go back to the House of Lords and tell them that The Cotswolds isn’t just hills and stone walls, it’s a hub of manufacturing.”

With over 100 entries, the manufacturing and engineering community embraced the awards and each entry offered an impressive insight into what’s really going on across the sector. The judging panel was impressed with the quality of innovation within Cotswold companies, all contributing to the UK’s economy.

Compèred by BBC Apprentice winner, Lee McQueen, who now runs his own Oxfordshire-based business Raw Talent Academy, 26 finalists were present at the awards evening alongside guests and representatives from many of the UK’s most prominent manufacturing and business support organisations. These included WMG, the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Innovate UK, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), MAS, IOD, Business West, Diamond Light Source, Catapult, UKTI and many more.

The awards programme was supported by Cotswold businesses, including headline sponsor BPE Solicitors, associate sponsor Lloyds Banking Group and event partner Oasis Events. Each Cotswold Life EMI Award winner survived two rigorous rounds of judging.
