We reveal the winner of this year’s Exporter of the Year, sponsored by Barclays

Last night, on November 2, we celebrated the region’s best innovative engineering and manufacturing companies at the third annual Cotswold Life Engineering Manufacturing Innovation Awards.

The glittering ceremony held at Cheltenham Racecourse celebrated the incredible achievements made by companies who really do put the Cotswolds on the map, drive the region’s economy and keep the area at the top of the tree when it comes to entrepreneurship and business success.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the award for Exporter of the Year, sponsored by Barclays.

This year’s finalists are:

Prima Dental, Gloucester

Prima Dental is the world’s fastest-growing carbide bur - dental drill - manufacturer in the world and exports to 90 countries. 88% of its £15.6m turnover is generated from export and turnover is expected to grow to £20m next year.

A record 30% sales increase over the past 12 months is thanks to growing market share in the USA, Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East.

It made history when it launched a wholly-owned subsidiary in India in 2014 and also owns joint venture companies in Brazil and China. To fuel its export growth it has employed one of Europe’s leading tooling experts, Dr Marilyn Goh, as head of Research and Innovation.

TBS Engineering, Cheltenham

TBS this year celebrates its 50th birthday with £34m turnover. More than 50% of the car batteries on UK roads are made by TBS and 99.9% of its business is export, thanks to longstanding relationships with customers across the world including in the US, China and Canada.

TBS is on track to deliver double-digit growth this year, up 30%. The market is incredibly competitive but to stay at the forefront, the company is continually investing in innovation and new product development, investing more than £1.5m over the past 12 months. Big wins have been a £750k contract with a new client in Peru and the £3.2m installation of a new assembly line for a Chinese client.

And the winner is...

Advanced Coated Products, Cheltenham

A UK leader in its field, the company has seen its export business grow 36% over the past three years and exports now account for 28% of the total business.

It ships to 30 countries worldwide including the US, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and Asia and has in the past three years added 10 new markets including Sweden, China and Iraq.

Products range from double-sided tape to high-end Champagne cases, envelopes to liners used in colostomy bags and foam used in car seats.
