Best Place to Work

We reveal the winner of this year’s award for Best Place to Work, sponsored by BPE Solicitors

Last night, on November 2, we celebrated the region’s best innovative engineering and manufacturing companies at the third annual Cotswold Life Engineering Manufacturing Innovation Awards.

The glittering ceremony held at Cheltenham Racecourse celebrated the incredible achievements made by companies who really do put the Cotswolds on the map, drive the region’s economy and keep the area at the top of the tree when it comes to entrepreneurship and business success.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the award for Best Place to Work, sponsored by BPE Solicitors.

This year’s runner-up:

Batten & Allen, Cirencester

This family-owned business started 40 years ago in a garden shed and has grown to become one of the biggest stamping companies in the UK.

Despite exporting 650m parts every year, the emphasis is still family first, and all employees are encouraged to maintain their work-life balance. Family issues can be dealt with openly, without retribution, which instils a culture of trust.

Staff are supported with time and funding to expand their academic qualifications and the culture is to promote from within. MD Shawn Batten believes money in the bank is there to protect the workforce, suppliers and customers in the event of a financial downturn.

Customers who visit the factory are asked to comment on the organisation, and their feedback often involves “everyone looks happy”.

And the winner is...

Truturn Precision Engineering (Charfield) Ltd, Stroud

Teamwork, honesty and openness towards all aspects of company life is ingrained in the culture. The firm has won the Investors In People GOLD Award and involves all staff in the winning of work and all areas of continuous improvement.

Teamwork is key.

If targets are hit, staff are treated to cream cakes, and It’s A Knockout-style team building events help gel the workforce. Employees feel part of the decision-making process in this give-and-take environment.
