‘Some Like it Soft,’ the Ultimate Picture Palace campaign to raise funds for new cinema seats, has raised £9,431, more than 50 percent over the target of £6,000

‘Some Like it Soft,’ the Ultimate Picture Palace campaign to raise funds for new cinema seats has raised an incredible £9,431, more than 50 percent over the target of £6,000. Two hundred and thirty people pledged their support during the campaign, ensuring the cinema will be installing brand new, comfortable seats in 2014.

Cinema owner Becky Hallsmith said: ”We are completely over the moon. This is such a vote of confidence from the community for East Oxford’s favourite cinema.

“This is the best possible way to end a really brilliant year for the cinema and I thank everyone who pledged and helped make it such a success. We’re now looking forward to getting the seats made and installed and welcoming everyone to try them out.”

Oxford’s only independent cinema ran the appeal on the Kickstarter crowdfunding site to raise funds towards upgrading the cinema’s seats.

In return for pledges, people could choose from a selection of Ultimate Picture Palace treats, including the chance to be a projectionist for the evening and to lead the programming of a season of classic films at the cinema.

The new seats are now being custom made and will be installed in Spring 2014.
