Magical Montpellier

Magical Montpellier

This very chic part of Cheltenham has a village atmosphere and is a great place to visit all year round. But at Christmas, well, it's pure magic!

Words by Tracy Spiers, photography by Victoria Jones

It has a village community spirit, promises the extra personal touch when it comes to customer service, provides an inviting continental atmosphere, a plethora of independent boutiques, shops, restaurants and coffee bars and boasts a stunning architectural and historical backdrop.

This is Montpellier, an attractive and fashionable pocket of Cheltenham. Its a magical place to be all year round, but with the additional Christmas lights and sparkle, it is worth visiting just to hunt out that extra special festive gift. One important date for the diary is the Montpellier Christmas Street Fair on Thursday, December 1 (5-9pm) when traders enter into the seasonal spirit, entertainers and musicians bring a sense of cheer and fun, Father Christmas makes an appearance, and food and drink is available in abundance. Money raised will support the work of Cotswold Riding for the Disabled.

Street Fair organiser Kathy Mottershead, a former Montpellier trader, is passionate about this particular part of Cheltenham. I love the area. I shop, eat and drink there. It has a friendly village feel to it and you could quite easily live your life there as it has everything you need.
