Charity bike-ride is a fund raising success

In June, Local technology company Postcode Anywhere handed over a cheque to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC) for £2,563.51.

Postcode Anywhere was welcomed MAAC’s representative, Annie Newell, to its Waterside premises recently. Members of staff from the company were proud to hand over funds raised from their charity bike ride event.

The Midlands Air Ambulance has the largest operating presence in the UK serving the counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

For over two decades, the charity has responded to more than 40,000 missions averaging 3,000 per year, or nearly ten each day, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK.

The charity’s three aircraft each carry a crew comprising pilot, two paramedics or flight doctors plus full life-support medical equipment. Operating from strategically located regional air bases, the maximum flying time to hospital from anywhere in the region is less than 15 minutes.

Contrary to popular belief, the Midlands Air Ambulance does not receive Government or National Lottery funding which means it is purely reliant on donations received from the public and local businesses. Four in ten of those that support the charity financially are funded by gifts in wills.

The Midlands Air Ambulance provides a uniquely invaluable facility due to the speed, agility and accessibility of its service. If a patient reaches hospital within 60 minutes of injury (referred to as the ‘Golden Hour’) their chances of survival are dramatically increased. That is why the rapid response of the Midlands Air Ambulance is so vital in an emergency situation.

Postcode Anywhere’s PR manager Natalie Green who helped to organise the charity fund raising event said: “We were so proud to be able to support the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity with the amazing proceeds from our ‘fun’ charity bike ride event. We couldn’t have done it without the stalwart support and generosity and of our friends, family, customers, suppliers and other community partners.

“We were inundated with great feedback and enquiries as to whether we were going to replicate the event next year and due to popular demand we certainly will.”
