Kate’s Home Nursing was set up in the mid 1990s as the result of a wish expressed by Kate King, a Stow resident who died in 1995 and who became aware of the lack of palliative nursing care available to patients who wanted to die at home and challenged her nurses and doctors to do something about it. Their team of experienced Registered nurses provide hospice-at-home care for local patients, with particular emphasis on effective pain relief and symptom control. The pattern of care depends entirely on individual needs and can be as little as an occasional few hours to provide respite for primary carers. However, most of the care is provided as an all-night nursing service when NHS services are on out-of-hours coverage.
