5-minute interview with Jonjo ONeill

Supreme synchronicity

Champion jockey and now legendary trainer Jonjo ONeills horse Synchronised, ridden by AP McCoy, won this years coveted Gold Cup at Cheltenham Festival.

We caught up with him briefly at his Cotswold-based training yard, Jackdaws Castle, to find out how it feels to bring home the biggest prize of them all

What have been the highlights of your career as a trainer?

Ive had many great times during my time training including of course Dont Push Its win of the 2010 Grand National and our three winners at Cheltenham last week, as well as the fantastic performances by Get Me Out of Here and Albertas Run.

Do you have a favourite horse that youve trained or ridden?

Dawn Run stands out she was a great mare with the heart of a lion and shes the only horse ever to have won both a Champion Hurdle and a Cheltenham Gold Cup.

What feels better: winning the Gold Cup as a jockey or as a trainer?

They were both fantastic days

What made you decide to move from Penrith to Jackdaws Castle in the Cotswolds?

I had always loved the area and I jumped at the chance to rent Jackdaws Castle when it became available as it had such potential as a world-class training facility.

How long have you been working with Tony McCoy?

Ive known AP for many years now really since he started out.

How confident were you that Synchronised would win?

I wasnt really until I saw him jump the last, and then I knew he would stay up the hill.

Whats next for Jonjo ONeill Racing?

Hopefully lots more big winners!
