Cheese is an integral part of the Cotswold food scene and we’re pleased to announce we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Cheese of the Year’ Award...
The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Cheese of the Year Award’, sponsored Paxton & Whitfield.
This year’s finalists
Single Gloucester, Simon Weaver Cotswold Organic Dairy, Upper Slaughter
Single Gloucester from Simon Weaver impressed judges as being made from organic milk and being one of only 5 Single Gloucester cheesemakers. It was described as a classic Single Gloucester that once tried is never forgotten.
St Eadburgh, Gorsehill Abbey Cheese, Broadway
Judges noted that St Eadburgha is ripened from its rind - leading to a breakdown of the interior, giving a sumptuous, creamy consistency. Judges praised the farm on which it is made - the cows are traditional breeds recognised for the quality of their milk.
And the winner is...
Cerney Ash, Cerney Cheese
Cerney Ash was described by judges as an established cheese with international reputations that is a delight to taste. Judges noted that the team delight in doing what they do, to the best of their ability, and celebrating artisan methods.
