Whether it’s a cosy manor escape or a chic city getaway, no stay at a Cotswolds hotel is complete without a meal in the restaurant. We scoured the counties for the best hotel restaurant and one winner emerged victorious
The Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about the Cotswold countryside and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Hotel Restaurant of the Year’ Award…
This year’s finalists…
Lords of the Manor, Upper Slaughter
One of our runners up is the Michelin starred restaurant at Lords of the Manor Hotel. It has held a Michelin star for eight consecutive years and is listed in The Times’ top 100 restaurants in Britain, let alone the Cotswolds. Head Chef Richard Picard-Edwards creates culinary delights for diners, helping to retain that coveted Michelin star year after year. With an extensive wine collection and its focus on sourcing ingredients locally, supporting farmers and producers in the Cotswolds, this commendable runners up prize wasn’t hard to award to the restaurant at Lords of the Manor Hotel.
Judges enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere at Lords of the Manor and the meals ordered were described as delicious. Staff were very helpful and the judges commended that suppliers were mentioned throughout the menu.
No. 131, Cheltenham
Along the Promenade in Cheltenham is a striking Grade II* listed Georgian building that has been transformed by its owners into No. 131, the chic restaurant, bar and hotel that is part of The Lucky Onion Group. The stylish interiors and effortless cool atmosphere elevate your dining experience and with locally sourced, seasonal produce going into the inventive dishes that comprise the impressive menu, it’s not surprising that they snapped up the runners up award.
The menu at No. 131 impressed the judges with such an extensive references to seasonal produce and local producers. They also commented on a vast range of dishes to choose from and knowledgeable staff at the hotel.
And the winner is…
Husband and wife team Mark and Sue Stinchcombe have created a diverse menu of dishes that is seasonally changing and uses the best in locally produced ingredients at Eckington Manor in Worcestershire. The ever popular three course set menu is overflowing with fresh dishes such as crab ravioli in a thai spiced broth, wild mushroom arancini with spinach, roasted onion and truffle or the sumptuous dessert of rhubarb soufflé with gingerbread ice cream.
It’s no wonder this laid-back restaurant has taken the first prize, combining the relaxed and unassuming atmosphere of the hotel that’s tucked in the Avon valleys with the chefs’ expertise and creativity makes for a delectable dining experience.
Judges praised Eckington Manor for their greeting upon visiting and noted the interesting menu that incorporated a great range of seasonal produce. The staff were very attentive and were able to help with any questions.
