A Christmas fun day was held on Friday 9th December to mark the launch of a schools year of fundraising for the charity Splash.

Children at St Margarets Preparatory School, Calne, dressed in red and green as they tried to guess how many snowballs can fit down a chimney and how much Santa weighs. The school picks a charity to support every year and this time the money will go to Splash, which works with Wiltshire Police to provide holiday activities for disadvantaged children.

Headmistress Karen Cordon said: St Margarets has decided to support Splash this year as it is so evident how invaluable their work is. By inspiring young people through leisure activities and a range of other opportunities, they are able to divert them away from negative and anti-social behaviour. Splash really does make a difference they are able to improve the quality of life and outcomes for young people. We have asked to raise funds specifically for youngsters in the Calne area, as opposed to countywide, as we would like our local community to benefit.

The manager of Splash Youth Schemes, Jayne Moverley said: I am delighted that St Margarets school has chosen Splash as their charity of the year. It is wonderful to see young people sharing and supporting each other and we are looking forward to joining St Margarets at their fundraising events during the year. The funds raised will support positive holiday activity projects in Calne, for young people who might be experiencing challenges in life or who are going through a particularly difficult time of life. On Friday the St Margarets pupils paid 1 each to dress in red and green rather than their usual school uniform and 20p a time to take part in the Christmas themed games and to buy goodies.

Parents have also done their bit by donating half the proceeds from their Christmas Fair to the appeal which raised 300 for Splash. So far a total of over 1600 has been raised.

Splash projects are advertised on the Splash website prior to each holiday period www.splash-wiltshire.org.uk and booking forms can be downloaded from the site. For further information please call 01380 734106 or visit the website.
