Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

Pupils from St Margarets Preparatory School in Calne were among hundreds of children from all over the County who greeted The Queen as she and The Duke of Edinburgh arrived at Cathedral Close in Salisbury on Tuesday 1st May. The event, organised by the Lord- Lieutenant of Wiltshire, focused on a celebration around the Magna Carta, providing a link to the history of the monarchy and our county of Wiltshire. Additionally, in the grounds of the Cathedral various communities and organisations presented displays such as birds of prey, bands, morris dancers and other similar events. Ten pupils from Years 5 and 6 were lucky enough to be chosen to go on the trip and managed to get a front line position for the royal visit. Headmistress Karen Cordon said: All the children were very excited and had a wonderful time. We were right at the front and so got a really good view of the Queen who walked by us when she arrived and left the Cathedral. We were thrilled to be part of this wondrful celebration for such an historic occasion as the Diamond Jubilee and there was lots of entertainment to keep everyone entertained while they waited.

The entire school community at St Margarets will be paying tribute to The Queen by holding a red, white and blue-themed Diamond Jubilee street party on May 31st.
