This year’s packed programme of family fun and entertainment promises to make it an unforgettable weekend

Taking place this year on July 7 and 8, the award-winning Cotswold Show & Food Festival is hosted by its founder, Earl Bathurst, in beautiful Cirencester Park.

It remains one of the Cotswold’s most popular rural events, with its winning mix of family entertainment, arena attractions, and over 200 trade stands and food stalls, showcasing the best of the British countryside, its history, traditions and produce.

Commemorating the centenary of the end of World War I and 100 years of the RAF, the skies above the show will feature aerial dogfighting from the Bremont Great War Display Team – biplanes and triplanes will engage in mock warfare for a thrilling display. The Poppy Parachute Team, serving and former members of the British Army, will be jumping in to the centre of the Bathurst Arena.

Brand new to the show, the Savage Skills BMX Show is the UK’s leading freestyle mountain bike stunt team. They pride themselves on being the most accomplished stunt show team in the United Kingdom and quite possibly the World. The facts speak for themselves, with eight World and over 25 British Championship titles you’re sure to see some of the most impressive tricks, jumps and stunts possible, many of which you would not think possible on a bicycle.

Equine enthusiasts will love the Mounted Games Association of Great Britain, the inspiration of HRH Price Philip who asked the Horse of the Year Show to devise a mounted competition for ordinary children which would be fun and which did not necessarily involve owning an expensive show pony. The Prince Philip Cup was created in 1957 and the Mounted Games continue to this day. Expect the most exciting and exhilarating competitions on horseback with riders racing against each other demonstrating speed, accuracy and horsemanship. Races are a mix of turns, intricate hand overs, equipment collections and placements, vaulting on and off the horses – and of course, all at a gallop!

The Dog and Duck Show is also new to the show this year - the most popular sheepdog display in the UK, providing highly entertaining sheepdog demonstrations with the aim of giving a better understanding of our canines’ behaviour. The team rescue sheepdogs and use these trained and untrained dogs in the arena, educating and entertaining, while the dogs show their natural instincts as they herd Indian runner ducks!

Debuting in 2017 and back by popular demand is the World of Dogs, a whole area dedicated to man’s best friend, featuring terrier and lurcher racing as well as dog shows for both breeds.

LG Agility will stage a fun and informative display as well as some dancing dogs for more entertainment. There is a family dog show and a have-a-go dog agility course as well as BASC scurry competitions.

Originally founded as a showcase for countryside pursuits, show visitors can expect to learn all about traditional rural skills through demonstrations and hands-on experience. Have a go at shooting clays, archery and even ferret racing, and watch the experts at work in displays of falconry, glassblowing, beekeeping, wood carving and more.

Then, there’s food glorious food! The show’s Food Festival demonstrates the region’s appetite for the world-class food and drink we are lucky enough to have right here on our doorstep. Some 50 food and drink producers will be featured in this year’s Food Hall and the Cookery Theatre.

With the help of its visitors, The Cotswold Show & Food Festival continues to raise valuable funds to support local charities, including Cirencester Hospital League of Friends, Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Blue Cross and the Royal British Legion, and once again the show’s sponsors make a vital contribution, with partner Moore Allen & Innocent headlining the impressive list of local businesses sponsoring and supporting the show.

We’re offering two VIP tickets to this year’s Cotswold Show and Food Festival, as well as dinner, bed and breakfast for two at Ellenborough Park Hotel in Cheltenham. Stay at the sumptuous Ellenborough Park on Friday, July 6, before visiting the festival on Saturday, July 7, with priority parking, access to the VIP marquee, lunch and complimentary drinks all day.
