Managing partner Bridget Redmond commented: “This exceptional set of results is testament to the hard work and calibre of our lawyers.”

Gloucestershire law firm Willans LLP has scored a record set of results in the latest edition of The Legal 500, with two of its departments securing a spot in the coveted top tier. Even more of its lawyers are now recommended in the guide, including one partner who appears in the ‘elite’ list of leading lawyers in the UK.

The commercial litigation team has won a place in the highest tier for the second year running, and is described as “able to compete with larger regional players”. Paul Gordon, who leads the team, has been noted for his “technical competence and pragmatism”.

Willans’ corporate and commercial team, which has particular expertise in the technology, telecoms and manufacturing sectors, retained its second-tier ranking. Department head Paul Symes-Thompson is noted for providing “client-focused advice”.

A new top tier accolade has been secured by Willans’ “adept” employment law practice. The department is headed by Matthew Clayton, who is praised for providing “calm, measured and commercial advice”.

16 lawyers, many of whom ranked across several categories, are recommended in the guide. New entries include family lawyer Jonathan Eager, and Nick Southwell of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution team, who is described as “a safe pair of hands” with a “practical and commercial approach to litigation”.

Nigel Whittaker is recognised for the second year running as a ‘leading individual’ in the UK. Nigel’s commercial property team, which also retains its second-tier ranking, has been rated by clients for its “rounded, commercial understanding” and “sensible, understandable advice”.

Managing partner Bridget Redmond commented: “This exceptional set of results is testament to the hard work and calibre of our lawyers. It is reflective of the firm’s strong commitment to client service and our ability to punch above our weight. I am very proud of all those named in this year’s edition and their departments”.
