Car sales up at Lechlade

Real entrepreneurs seize the opportunity to expand their business in a recession. Mike and Julie Dolan did that and three months in, the business is firing on all cylinders.

After years of running a car sales business from home, Mike and Julie took on almost brand new showrooms of a former caravan sales business next door to the famous Trout Inn pub, Lechlade, and opened the Allied Motor Company new showroom and garage.

Alongside the business the couple have set up a new car sales website which promises to sell customers cars for them at retail price, taking a fixed fee instead of the usual car sales practice of paying a lower trade price to the customer and advertising it for sale at a higher price often leaving a bitter taste in the customers mouth when they see the hike in price between what they sold it for and its advertised price.

Mike said: People like to know how much they are paying for something, and this way they do.

He said: Its a bit of a gamble setting up a new business in a recession. You have to be extra sure theres the demand for your product and services. So I was particularly delighted one when WSYC generated 73 enquiries, over just one weekend.

Many of Mikes customers are at the prestige end of the market he recently sold three Porsches in one week. But I sold a Nissan Micra that week too, he adds.

Allied Motors has already employed two local people and is currently interviewing for additional members of staff.
