Born Global blasts off

PUBLISHED: 15:07 23 September 2013 | UPDATED: 16:24 23 September 2013

Business West has launched its award winning Born Global competition for the third year running, and has seen a record number of registrations in its first week.

The competition is open to all businesses in the South West who have new and exciting product ideas, innovative solutions or services with export potential. The competition culminates with the Grand Final in December, where the best idea will be judged by a panel of business experts. Winners will receive a package of bespoke business support such as mentoring, advice from business advisers and investors; and a cash prize.

Born Global is more than a competition; entrants will gain access to the ‘Launchpad’ workshop programme which provides support from writing the entry proposal, advice on how to deliver a winning pitch to the investors to help identifying markets for their product or service.

Adam Place, founder of nu desine, winner of last year’s competition said, “Winning the competition has been fundamental to the success of my business. At the Grand Final last year I met Nick Baird, Head of UK Trade and Investment and as a result of that meeting I was invited on a trade mission to Japan with the Prime Minister, which is something I would never have expected. This led to one of the first major contracts we signed for the distribution of the Alphasphere.”

Phil Smith, Managing Director of Business West, said of the competition, “We are delighted to be running Born Global again to support the international aspirations of South West’s businesses. This competition helps businesses of any size or sector to break into new markets and achieve global success. We are fortunate to have European Regional Development Funding to support this exciting project and access to essential knowledge and expertise from UK Trade & Investment. I would encourage those organizations that have a new business idea that is ready for international success to submit their entries now.”

Deadline for entries is 18th October at 12pm. To enter visit www.born2bglobal.co.uk
