Chris Thompson, Hotel du Vin
Hotel du Vin Cheltenham has welcomed Chris Thompson as General Manager. Chris will oversee the day to day operations of the hotel and the development of his team to ensure that the hotel continues to deliver great food and wine. He joins from Malmaison, Hotel du Vin’s sister brand, where he had been Deputy General Manager of Malmaison Leeds.
Chris spent his first week managing the hotel during Cheltenham Festival. He said: “It was a great opportunity to get stuck in and to get to know both the team and the local community. It was a brilliant week for the hotel.”
Alex Loquens, Lodders
Law firm Lodders has appointed IT security and forensics expert Alex Loquens as IT Director.
He joins the firm from Key Forensic Services Ltd, where he was Head of IT. With substantial experience in forensic IT, IT security compliance and delivery, and cloud and managed services and application delivery, Alex has held a number of senior roles throughout a 25-year career. These include IT Operations Manager at Extrinsca Global at Oxford Science Park, IT Infrastructure Manager at Cheltenham-based Commercial Group, and Head of IT at DT3 LTD in Surrey. At Lodders, Alex is to oversee all IT governance at the firm across its offices in Cheltenham, Stratford upon Avon and Henley in Arden. This will include maintaining data protection and cyber security systems and programmes ahead of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) next May. Alex said: “My forensic and IT experience, knowledge and skill-set lend themselves to supporting and developing the IT function and strategy at Lodders.”
Sammy Burt, Prima Dental
Gloucestershire dental drill manufacturer Prima Dental has bolstered its team with the appointment of Sammy Burt as International Brand Manager.
Sammy is an experienced brand and marketing professional who joins Prima from Bath-based brand consultancy, The House, where she co-created award-winning brands for a range of international and UK companies, alongside national and local charities. She said: “Prima Dental is at a hugely exciting point in its business lifecycle. It’s in the throes of a massive growth spurt and I simply couldn’t resist being part of the team orchestrating this growth, both its manufacturing in the UK and sales worldwide.”
International trade accounts for over 85 per cent of Prima Dental’s business and the creation of this new international role reflects Prima’s ambitious plans to grow market share. Richard Muller, Group Managing Director, said: “We’re really thrilled to have Sammy on board. She’s got superb skills and experience which will be invaluable as we drive the business forward. The global dental market is constantly developing and creating many opportunities for us, particularly in the digital dentistry sector.”
Robbie Dawson, CKF Systems
CKF Systems Ltd, the Gloucester-based provider of robotic solutions for manufacturing industry, has strengthened its UK operation with the appointment of Robbie Dawson as Sales and Marketing Manager. He rejoins the company after 18 months.
Bryan Wheeler, CKF Systems Ltd Managing Director, says “When a sales management role became available, we wasted no time in approaching Robbie. He is a talented individual who knows our business well.” “I am delighted to be back,” said Robbie. “The company has secured four major contracts and the future looks extremely bright.”
Sara Crowther, Crowthers
Sara Crowther has become a director of Crowthers Accountants Ltd. Crowthers is an established firm of Chartered Accountants with offices in Pershore and Ledbury. Sara is seeking to expand the services they offer to Cheltenham and the surrounding areas. She established Crowthers Associates Limited in 2011 to provide specialist tax services.
Sara has a wealth of corporate tax knowledge and is a specialist for R&D, capital allowances and corporate reconstructions. She has now joined forces with Crowthers Accountants Limited to expand the tax services she offers to new and existing clients. Sara is also planning to launch probate services.
Paul Cox, Paish Tooth
Paish Tooth, the Cheltenham-based firm of accounting and tax advisors, has promoted Paul Cox to Associate Director. Paul has been with the company for 10 years, having qualified as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants shortly after joining. He manages a wide portfolio of clients, offering support with a broad range of accounting, audit and tax related issues, along with helping them use cloud technology to make their accounting as efficient as possible.
Paul said: “I’m delighted to accept this new role and look forward to continuing to offer existing and new clients the best service possible for each of their individual requirements.”
New Non-Executive Directors for Publica Group
Four independent Non-Executive Directors have been appointed to sit on the boards of Publica Group – three new local authority owned companies providing services for district councils in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. A recent recruitment drive attracted around 100 applications for the positions. They are:
David Brooks, chairman of the board, has worked in the food industry for nearly 30 years including nine years with Brake Bros. Between 2002 and 2008 he was Chief Executive of Finsbury Food Group plc. He left this role in 2008 and decided to undertake a Non-Executive portfolio of work, which also included a four year spell as the Chief Executive of Sussex County Cricket Club.
He said: “This is an opportunity to be involved with something pioneering which could make a difference to public services across the country. It’s great to join at the start of the journey and I look forward to working with the new board and experienced executive team.”
Steve Anderson Dixon has nearly 40 years’ experience in the media, with 28 years for Northcliffe Media where he was Divisional Managing Director responsible for print and digital titles across the South West & Wales including The Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo and five years at Trinity Mirror where he was Chief Operating Officer and responsible for all the regional newspapers and websites. He now has a portfolio of Non-Executive roles including the British Veterinary Association. In addition Steve runs a property investment business with his wife.
Giles Cross, Folk2Folk
Giles Cross, has been appointed as Folk2Folk’s Chief Marketing Officer. Giles brings over 20 years’ experience in marketing financial services. Most recently, Giles was responsible for leading the marketing department at wealth management business Sanlam UK where he established the business as a recognised award-winning market leader for digital intelligence. He also previously worked at The English Mutual Group.
Giles will report into Folk2Folk’s CEO, Jane Dumeresque and will be responsible for leading the marketing, PR and business development teams as the business targets £1bn in cumulative loans in 2020.
Emma Fells, Barclays
Barclays has appointed Emma Fells to the role of Relationship Director. She has looked Barclays Business customers since 2008, working her way up from dealing with start-up businesses through the lifecycle to now dealing with larger corporate clients in the Gloucestershire community. She now deals with 35 major clients with specialisms in my portfolio leaning to the Professionals and High Growth, and also sits on the banking and finance panel for the LEP.
As part of her role, she supports Barclays’ Lifeskills and Money Skills agenda by going into local schools and colleges to up-skill children in general money skills and how to navigate the world of employment.
Jon Burdekin, All Fleet Services
Gloucester based All Fleet Services, the UK’s leading outsourced contact centre and administration solutions provider to the fleet and automotive industry has appointed Jon Burdekin as Director of Customer Relationships. Jon will be responsible for developing further the strategic partnerships that All Fleet Services has with its clients. He brings with him over 20 years’ experience in the industry, 15 years of which was in senior management with Alphabet who are an All Fleet client.
Dave Scobie, Managing Director, said: “Jon is going to be a fantastic addition and will give us exactly the right kind of strong focus on customer relationships that the business needs to take it to the next level. “We’ve grown fast over the past few years thanks to the strength of relationships with our customers.”

Experienced commercial property specialist Alasdair Garbutt has been appointed as the 14th partner of Willans LLP. Ex-city lawyer Alasdair joined Willans in 2012 and is recommended by prestigious national directory The Legal 500 as part of Willans’ five-strong commercial property team. His specialisms include property investments, property management and business leases and he acts for a number of national clients.
Willans, which celebrates 70 years in business this year, advises national as well as local businesses, several international corporations and individuals.
